Go to map

Horodło is known to everyone from history lessons thanks to the Horodło Union. Located 20 km from Hrubieszów. It's not big, but it's charming. Great monuments testify to its rich history. Archaeological finds testify to the existence of a fortified castle here as early as the 10th century. The oldest is the stronghold with the remains of the castle, called Wały Jagiellońskie or Zamczysko, from which the town was founded and from which its name comes - Horodło, from the word horod-stronghold. The stronghold owed its development to a favorable location when crossing the Bug River and crossing old trade routes. Not far away, in Zosin, or more precisely on the Bend bend - below it is the most eastern point of Poland. On the opposite side of the river, already in Ukraine, on the high embankment of the Bug River, you can see the hidden buildings of Uściłuża (one of the oldest settlements in Volhynia), there is an early medieval settlement with traces of a later castle. There is also a bridge on the Bug and a border crossing to Ukraine.
