Does the name Patek say anything to you? It was in Piaski that Antonia Norbert Patek was born - Polish watchmaker, founder of Patek Philippe & Co. - one of the most famous watch manufacturing companies. Famous owners of these watches are: Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Zygmunt Krasiński, Piotr Czajkowski, Lew Tolstoy, Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Pope Pius XII, Josip Broz Tito, Józef Stalin, Ignacy Paderewski, Ryszard Wagner, T. Roosvelt, Artur Rubistein , Walt Disney. Impressive right? The sands are recognizable because of the radio and television mast. It is impressive because it is 312 meters high. The town itself is very sleepy and since the beltway was finally built, it is quite out of the way. But earlier for the inhabitants it was a horror - all those trucks pulling towards the eastern border. And with the beltway there was a lot of confusion because of swallows! Construction was suspended for several months (due to environmentalists) because swallows grew in the beltway and waited when they would kindly fly to warm countries. Piaski has a rich Jewish past, including Żegota. A large Jewish community lived in Piaski until 1939. After the city was incorporated into the General Government, the Germans created a ghetto here, to which Jews from Lublin and Germany, mainly from Bavaria, were transported. Everyone died in the Bełżec death camp. Today, a valuable monument is the Jewish cemetery from the 19th century. Another monument in the city are the ruins of the church from 1783-1785. In the close vicinity of the city in the Sierotka Valley there are beautiful ponds, numerous natural monuments, and so-called ecological land. The beautiful Giełczew river valley is famous for its historic manor houses. And here's what we have in the area: First of all, something that everyone has heard about - Gardzienice I-palace from around 1830, Gardzienice II-ruins of a manor from the 19th century, outbuilding from the 17th century and courtyard buildings, Brzezice-manor from the first mid-nineteenth century, Kawęczyn-brick manor from around 1830, Kozice Dolne-brick manor from the nineteenth century, outbuilding, stone barn, granary, guardhouse and courtyard park, Wierzchowiska-stone palace from 1850. This tiny town has finally recovered city rights - in 1993, which they lost in 1869 due to tsarist repression. And remember - they are charming on Wednesday's fair (the famous "natarg dopiask" - you have to speak with the right accent and one string) and traditional ice cream! no artificiality, the owner herself, who took over the ice cream parlor after her mother-in-law. People come even from very far away with these ice creams. Just like traditional tripe - very famous not only in the region; in the same place as in the PRL, but a bit different - like everything today. However tasty. It is such small traditions that create the atmosphere of small towns. Yummy!
