A fortress building on a circular plan erected in 1825-1831. It was built on an island surrounded by swamps and backwaters located 500 meters from the fortress walls, in a place where in the 18th century there was a ramparts defending Zamość from the south. The outer diameter of the circle on the plan of which the Rotunda was built is 54 meters, while the diameter of the inner courtyard - 34 meters. The height of the outer walls of the building reached 10 meters. Around the courtyard were 20 radially located cells with shooting ranges, arcaded from the courtyard. Communication with the city was provided by a road, secured by embankments and a moat. After the liquidation of the fortress in 1866, the internal arcades were walled up, and the building was turned into a weapon and ammunition depot. The building performed this function until 1939.
