It is one of the three markets of the Zamość Old Town. For many years, until 1942, it served as a market square. It owes its name to salt imported from Wieliczka and Rus, stored here in the first years of the city's operation. In the eastern and northern frontages of the square arcaded tenement houses have survived to our times. Unfortunately, the attics of the 19th century were not preserved. The façade decorations were also damaged. Only on the so-called A beautiful frieze with a vine branch motif survived in the Rabbi's house. Dormers and plaster patterns on the facades of other tenements are an expression of the creative invention of their current owners.
