Address: ul. Droga Męczenników Majdanka 67 , 20-325 Lublin
The State Museum at Majdanek was established in the autumn of 1944 on part of the grounds of the former KL Lublin concentration camp, thus it was the first institution of this type in the world. After the creation of the museum at the camp in 1969, a monumental Monument to Struggle and Martyrdom was created at Majdanek. It consists of two parts: Concrete Gate and Mausoleum with ashes of the murdered. Both parts are connected by the Road of Homage and Remembrance running along the fence with watchtowers. On September 2, 2009, the State Museum at Majdanek was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis. The museum exhibitions include: outdoor exhibitions, historical exhibition, multimedia exhibitions and temporary exhibitions. It is also worth adding a few words about the concentration camp. About 150,000 prisoners passed through him and 80,000 lost their life in the camp. On its premises you can see prisoners' barracks, a crematorium with drinks, baths with a gas chamber and barbed wire fences. There are also a number of other exhibits and exhibitions documenting the history of the extermination camp.
