THE SYNAGOGAL TEAM IN WŁODAW is a unique in Poland complex of three Jewish buildings that belonged to the Włodawa kehilla (Jewish community). It consists of: the Great Synagogue (Beth Haseset, from Hebrew House of Congregations), built in 1764-1774 Small Synagogue (Beth Midrash, from Hebrew, House of prayer and study of religious books), from the end of the 18th century. (new bet ha-midrasz), from 1928. Since 1983, the above-mentioned monuments of Jewish brick architecture are the seat of the Museum - Synagogue Complex in Włodawa. Each of them presents permanent and temporary exhibitions. In the Great Synagogue, trying to preserve the atmosphere of these places, we only show exhibitions related to Jewish culture, in the Little Synagogue - with the multicultural history of the city and the ethnography of the region, ethnological and exotic exhibitions in the third building. The Great Synagogue The Great Synagogue (bet ha-kneset) was built in the years 1764-1774 in the place of a originally wooden one from the commune's funds and partly from the funds of the Czartoryski family, the then owners of Włodawa. In the parish book under 1764 a message was written, it was erected during the time of Father Fr.. Czartoryski and their excellent translation. The Jews of Włodawa erected a spacious stone synagogue that could be counted for the city's decorations if it wasn't for the known Jewish sloppiness, dirt and carelessness in preserving and preserving their buildings. " cellar. On both sides of it there are one-story women's galleries (in prayer for women) topped with a combed attic. Above the vestibule is the third women's gallery, to which corner alcoves are supported by arcades. The interior of the largest men's room is crowned with a nine-pole cradle-vaulted ceiling supported by four stylized columns, between which stood a bimah (a platform with a Torah reading desk). The only preserved equipment of the prayer room is the neo-Baroque arum ha-kodesh (altar cabinet for storing rhodiums or Torah scrolls) from 1936, made of stucco and polychrome. The original wooden furnishings burned down during the fire in 1934. Small Synagogue Information about its existence is provided by written sources from 1782-1786. From the beginning the building served two purposes. It was a house of prayer and a place of study of the Torah and Talmudic books. Hence its name bet ha-midrasz. Its purpose is evidenced by a modest external appearance and a simple interior layout. It was not to be a representative building, as the Great Synagogue played the role. The style in which the old bet ha-midrasz Włodawa was erected corresponded to the typical modest and commonly implemented scheme of building small-town synagogues. According to his assumptions, the vestibule was located along the west wall, and above it was a prayer for women. The whole combined with the men's room covered with a common roof. Only the wooden frames of the wall cabinets have survived from the room equipment. Pokahalny House From the very beginning, the building served as the administrative function of the kehilla, it was the seat of the Commune Board, it housed the library, and probably some Jewish organizations or Jewish associations had their headquarters, for example, "Association of the Source of Jakub", "Psalm Association". A foundation board from 1927 or 1928 was found in this building: 1x1.5 m, made of white marble. The plate is filled with an engraved Hebrew inscription inscribed in a triangle./
